Abstract
Inflammatory masses on the cecum, which are virtually indistinguishable from the cancer, are
relatively uncommon but the surgeons are often challenged to determine the pathologic origin of an
inflammatory mass. Many of them are found unexpectedly at emergency abdominal surgery.
3 cases of these, which were indistinguishable from the cancer, were oerhaps originated from the
appendiceal stump of foreign body reaction after appendectomy.
A relatively good result was obtained with right hemicolectomy and ileotransverse colostomy in these
cases.
In one case of these, the clinical symptoms were resemble to acute appedicitis and which was found
during appendectomy.
In this cases, we performed the biopsy from the mass after appendectomy and the pathologic findings
was nosspecific chronic inflammatory mass.
The correct preoperative or operative diagnosis was difficult and the proper procedure was appeared
to be right hemicolectomy.
